Not Losing Track.

Last week, a friend convinced me to enter a competition and after a little thinking about it I submitted my application to compete at the House of Comedy at the Mall of America in their talent contest. I got a call saying that I was qualified to enter after they reviewed my work and I was all set to go. I even invited peeps, booked dancers and everything.

This morning, I completely did a 180 and changed my mind on the entire thing. As I’ve said before, I’ve never liked competitions. Competitions are ego boosters and a chance to show who is the best. That is not why I perform. I don’t do it to feed my ego or to try to prove that I’m better than anyone else.
I realized that this morning while looking at some video footage on YouTube of us dancing for the fun of it. No pressure, no watching your back, nothing. It was pure joy knowing that we were performing to share our work with others and not to try to beat the opponents. I don’t want to lose track of why I do this and so I’ve decided to pull from the competition. Call me dumb, I know…

I’m not driven by money or ego boosting opportunities. I want to be sure that when I perform is because it genuinely excites me. I have to stay true to me and my reasons for doing this.
